Pupil and Sport Premiums

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium allocation made to our school for the financial year 2016/17 was £32,880.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to all children who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals or have been eligible at any point in the last six years. It is also allocated to children who have been looked after for 1 day or more, are adopted or have care under a Special Guardianship Order or Residence Order. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the currently underlying inequalities between children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

For our school, like many others, the pupil premium has become an essential part of the overall budget - it's vital that parents who think they might qualify for free school meals apply for this so we can use the budget to benefit their children.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how to spend Pupil Premium, allocated as they are best placed to assess what is needed. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used this additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. New measures will be included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of those deprived pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. Schools are also required to publish online information about how they have used the Pupil Premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium.

Sports / PE Premium

For the academic year September 2016-July 2017, Petersgate Infant received £8,597 for PE and Sport Premium Funding.

The funding has two main aims:

1. To develop or add to the PE already in place in school (referring to the aims below)

2. To make improvements now for future pupils

  • To be physically active, working towards a target of 30 minutes activity during and after the school day (excluding general play times)
  • To excel in a broad range of activities
  • To engage in competition
  • To lead healthy lifestyles

We aim to meet the curriculum expectations with the help of the Sport Premium Funding by providing:

  • An inclusive curriculum
  • Access to traditional and alternative sports
  • Raise the profile of PE and sport
  • Increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of staff
  • Participation in competitive sport
